MORE EXPECTED FROM US

I have used today's gospel to talk about the doctrine of purgatory on my YouTube channel and in fact, close reading on today's gospel will clearly show that, the first servant who was given all that the master has gained heaven, the second servant who was cut in two and thrown into the darkness gained hell while the rest of the two who where beaten, one severely and the other lightly are those who needs purgatory before they can attain the heavenly Kingdom.

With this, let us reflect on the fact that more is required of us as bearers of God's image and likeness, or in a clearer sense as temples of God.

The statement that to the one much is given much is expected should both alert us and scare us. Humans are the part of creation that God acts on the most. That is the more reason why we are free. Much has been given to us humans, God himself.

We are God's temple, yesterday's first reading gave a clear statement about this;

Ephesians 2:20 -22

"You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is the cornerstone. Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit."

We must be alert because, we mostly forget that God acts on us humans more than other creatures. We mostly forget that, since we are the bearer of God's image, we automatically must care for all creatures including ourselves. Most especially, we are to take care of our Spirits and Souls like how we mostly take care of our body and neglect our souls and spirits. We should be scared because we mostly fail to do what is expected of us, Loving.

Of all that is expected of us, the greatest is the Love of God. The love of God makes a person hate himself. Interestingly, this is where our peace is found, in the suffering of the war between doing our will and doing the will of God.  We can only become masters of our passions when we summit our flesh to our spirit and our spirit to God.

How we are to save ourselves is a very crucial knowledge for us, for without Salvation, our corrupted nature leads us to doom. Let us not lose the little light within us through negligence.
